Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a tragic incident from August last year, an elderly man lost his life at Chunchura station after falling victim to a phone sex trap fraud, leading to an investigation by cyber police. The former railway employee paid Rs 14 lakh to fraudsters but failed to escape the scheme, ultimately choosing a path that ended in his demise.
Cyber police, tracing the origin of the sex racket to Rajasthan, arrested an eighteen-year-old youth named Burha from Pai village on November 17 after 15 days of persistent efforts. Earlier attempts by a Delhi Police team had failed, resulting in villagers taking them hostage. Burha, facing charges related to the sex racket, was produced in Chunchura court on the 19th, where the judge granted 11 days of police custody.
The cyber police, under the Chandannagar Commissionerate in Chunchura, initiated the investigation after the elderly man's unfortunate death. The incident sheds light on the dark side of cyber fraud, illustrating how victims can suffer immense financial losses and, in extreme cases, choose tragic outcomes.
The arrest of Burha signifies a breakthrough in dismantling the Rajasthan-based sex racket, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in tackling such cybercrimes.
